Endovenous Ablation
Over the last decade, endovenous ablation has become the standard in treating varicose veins and venous insufficiency. This minimally-invasive approach to treating veins has revolutionized care, taking a surgical procedure out of the operating room and into the clinic. Dr. Andrew currently offers two types of procedures to treat varicose veins and venous insufficiency.
CLOSUREFAST™

The ClosureFast ™ procedure to treat leg veins is also known as radiofrequency ablation. Under ultrasound guidance, a wire and catheter is inserted into the vein. Numbing solution (known as tumescent anesthesia) is placed around the vein. Then heat energy is delivered to the vein to shrink and close it down. The person does not feel any pain while the vein is heated. This entire procedure takes about 30 minutes to perform.

Patients are encouraged to return to daily activities immediately. Most return to work the next day with minimal soreness. As with many vein procedures, the leg is bandaged.

The radiofrequency ablation procedure is FDA approved and is covered by medical insurance plans and Medicare.
VENASEAL™

VenaSeal™ is a FDA-approved "superglue" treatment to permanently treat varicose veins and venous insufficiency. An adhesive, originally used to treat brain disease, is now used to close off diseased veins.

It is an exciting development because VenaSeal™ requires only one small needle stick. Because there is no heat used, there is no need to use anaesthesia around the vein, reducing the post-procedure recovery and side effects. There is also no need to wear compression stockings.

Patients return to normal daily activities immediately, with no pain or bruising.
